That is the fundamental question that this study was created to answer, which we will. In addition to that we will look at the topic of giving as well.
Others are equally convinced tithing is not required for believers. Love is far more important than our view on tithing 1 Cor. But such a stance needs to be explained.
Abraham gave a tenth of his spoils of war to Melchizedek Gen. The commands stipulated in the Mosaic covenant are no longer in force for believers.
And even if we use these distinctions, tithing is clearly not part of the moral law. The examples of Abraham and Jacob are not normative patterns. Such examples hardly prove tithing is for all time, however. Tithes were given to the Levites and priests, but there are no Levites and priests in the new covenant.
Levites and priests were tied to the sacrificial system of the old covenant. The tithe is tied to the land Israel received under the old covenant. Israel was supposed to celebrate a tithe every three years in Jerusalem.
But that requirement cannot apply to Christians today. Believers are part of the heavenly Jerusalem Gal. If tithing is required today, how much should we give?
As noted above, the number was certainly more than 10 percent and closer to 20 percent. Those who advocate tithing should probably settle on 20 percent. Jesus also mentioned offering sacrifices in the temple Matt. Jesus spoke about sacrifices and tithing before the cross and resurrection, before the dawn of the new covenant.
He used tithing and sacrifices as illustrations when addressing his contemporaries. But we can no more take his words as a commendation for tithing today than we can his words about offering sacrifices. For example, 1 Corinthians Wealth can so easily become an idol, leading us to abandon the Lord.

White (EGW), the Seventh-day Adventist prophetess! According to Introducing the New Testament, Mark Powell discusses the two type of “Jesus’s” found in the New Testament.
Powell explains that the earthly Jesus, and the exalted Jesus are the same person but the Christian faith likes to distinguish between the two.
A growing fad among some Christians is to deny tithing under the New Testament. Since there are no specific directions for tithing in the New Testament, they rejoice that they can avoid this duty.
is tithing compulsory for the new testament christian (introduction) Very often, this question has been asked by well-meaning Christians who are plagued by the torrents of appeal from churches for funds. A thorough publication on the true biblical tithe, proving that Christians in the New Covenant are not under the Old Testament tithe law.
Also shows that the early church never practiced tithing. Some Christians keep the seventh-day Sabbath, but not other Old Testament laws. Some Christians teach tithing, but not other Old Testament laws.
